The Samaritan woman - gospel messages of God's Word

The Samaritan woman Give me a drink Jesus calls us Jesus, the source of eternal life

5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near the farm that Jacob gave to his son Joseph; 6 think there is the well of Jacob Jesus therefore, being wearied of the journey, sat thus on the well was about the sixth hour. 7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 8 For his disciples had gone into town to buy food. 9 Then said the Samaritan woman: How do you, being a Jew, ask drink of me, a Samaritan woman? (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered him: If you had known the gift of God and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, you would have asked and he would have given thee living water. 11 He said the woman, Lord, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, which he also drank, and children, and his cattle?. 13 Jesus answered him: Everyone who drinks this water will thirst again; 14 but whoever drinks the water I give him shall never thirst; the contrary, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life. 15 He said the woman, 'Lord, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

John 4:5 and 15

When a drought occurs somewhere in the world will soon realize the terrible signs that accompany this destructive and characteristic picture of water scarcity.

We track everything with a heavy heart and full of sorrow. People are forced to move. When they get there in that warm and dry they suffer enough. The animals are weak, skeletal and then die of thirst. Likewise the trees and the land suffer from the intense heat and lack of rain.

Seeing this picture, just comes to mind the importance that water has for our lives and the life of the planet. We have all realized that there is no life without water. This is a fact. In the case of the human body it is quite evident, as more than half of our body is formed by water. We can then say that water is life.

Just as humans can not live without water, he can not live without Jesus. With water the man can even walk, laugh, eat, study, but it is not an authentic life. Life is a transient and ephemeral. The man will only have true life if he is connected to our God of Love.

Jesus as a loving Father never tires of coming to us to teach us about how we should act and how we conduct ourselves so that we will not get lost. So he always makes available. He always puts on their way to seek to rescue all the sheep who are lost and the world they are living a miserable life, a life of lies, of transgression and sin.

When the Lord Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman asking for a little water was as if Jesus had asked the woman she gave her life to Him. The sinful woman, as we also are sinners, just snapped and protested against the Lord's request.

Then it was as if the Lord Jesus said to the woman, if you know who is asking you to your life, that life itself is denying that you give me, you are who ask a new life for me and I would give a real life. A full, abundant and with a happiness that will never end.

As the woman's eyes were not seeing a sign at that moment was as if the woman had responded to the Lord Jesus as the Lord would give me a real life if I do not see anything in your hands.

That's not how we do it? That's not how we act when we leave our faith aside and try to believe only what is possible to see? This is not what happens when we walk by sight?

The Lord Jesus asks us to believe in Him and His infinite power. Jesus asks us to love our enemies. Jesus asks us to love one another. Christ asks us to not gather riches for us on this earth but in the kingdom of God. Our God commands us not to slay. Not commit adultery. What do not steal because by doing so we shall we receive from the Father the right to live eternally with Him, with the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit of God.

What do we do?

Obey? We practice the words of the Lord?

In the biblical passage was as if Jesus were to answer: little girl, this life that you try at all costs protect and secure is not a true life. Those who cling to this life will die, but who cling to life that I will give this the real life and will never die. The life that I have to give you is the only true life. Beside me there is no other life. Eternal life comes only from me, that whoever believes in me will receive. And the life that I shall give him will never end. Whoever receives the life I will give you the privilege to live with me, the Father and the Holy Spirit of God forever. There in eternity, I will live with him and we will be one. We will be one, as I and the Father are one.

Amen and Thank God.
